One of the first spells I learned as a young witch was the Triple Ring. When my teacher, a spry old crone named Susan, realized that my go-to shielding spell was making me oblivious to all sorts of things in my surroundings — which made perfect sense as I was visualizing a thick, red brick wall around myself — she sat me down and taught me a more effective way to protect myself from unwanted energies. Over the past two decades, the spell has become a part of my daily practice, and I cast it every morning when I wake up and every night before I go to sleep.
The Triple Ring is as much an exercise in gratitude as it is in protection; the caster’s thanks for the Goddess’s divine protection is what empowers the spell. It operates on the notion that there are other energies available to us as witches than our own personal energy. The visualization is called up in the caster’s mind and held together by the caster’s personal energy and willpower, but the energies that coalesce to actually create the protective Triple Ring comes from the divine.
The words to the spell are, “I surround myself with the triple-ring-not-pass of the fiery white light of the love of Goddess, to repel or expel any harm or danger. For this protection, I truly give thanks.”
The visualization for the spell is three swirling, concentric spheres emanating from the caster’s heart chakra and surrounding them from head to foot. Each sphere is radiant with golden-white light with a tinge of electric-blue witch-fire. The golden-white light is the divine energy. The electric-blue streaks are the caster’s personal energy holding the divine energy close to their body. The visualization is activated and the spell empowered by the caster taking a few moments to be deeply grateful for the divine’s protection. It is fixed when the caster senses an energetic release as the Triple Ring condenses and settles into place, becoming fully golden-white with no more electric-blue streaks in it.
Unlike the brick-wall shield that I used, which didn’t let anything pass through it even if it was benevolent or useful, the Triple Ring allows the caster to intuitively sense whether incoming energies are a threat or not. If the energy is a threat, it will bounce off the rings and return to the sender. If the energy is benevolent or useful, it will be absorbed into the Triple Ring and filtered through the layers of Goddess energy so that the caster can pull the energy through to their body if desired.
The Triple Ring works without needing to be thought about constantly. It lingers in your subconscious mind, at the ready for a moment when it might need to go into active-defense mode and bounce bad energies back to the sender. However, periodically taking a few moments throughout the day to be grateful for the Goddess’s protection will refresh the spell and keep it strong. It naturally dissipates by sunset, or by sunrise if cast at nighttime.
This is a good spell for inexperienced and experienced witches alike, and is appropriate to be taught to children. May it serve you well.
